A study released by the National
Academies reveals that every year 1.5
million peopler are injured or killed as a
result of medication errors. While the study
offers numerous suggestions and methods for
reducing the number of incidents, this does
little to cure those already harmed by medical
error.

care system is not perfect, and, while our
judicial system might not be perfect either,
at least we can rely on it to provide a forum
for those injured by the mistakes of others.
While a lawsuit might not cure the epidemic of
medical mistakes, it certainly provides a
deterrent and should make health care
professionals think twice before they
haphazardly treat patients who have placed not
only their trust in the professional, but put
their very lives and livelihood into their
hands. Healthcare professionals must handle
with care the trust and lives of patients.
